Have you ever considered the intricacies of your career industry?

On November 15, 2021, the FASH 4500 E-Retailing class hosted a fashion graduate panel on BlackBoard Collaborate with former graduates of the Fashion Management BComm Program. The panel consisted of Julia Bursey, Kaityln Fitzgerald, Erica Bowins, and Maggie Clarke who shared their insights and experience of working in the fashion industry. Students from the FASH 4500 E-Retailing class along with members of the DBSA community were in attendance.

All of the guest speakers shared details of their career journey and the factors that persuaded them to pursue a career in the fashion industry. They also outlined how the Fashion Management BComm Program played a crucial role in providing insights into both the business and fashion industries while creating a pathway for career advancement. Furthermore, they also shared some of the skillsets they wish they would have possessed before securing a job such as being proficient in Microsoft Excel and SmartSheets. 

The event was hosted by students from the FASH 4500 E-Retailing class, namely Mawuena Akradie, Huyen Nguyen, and Owen Israel. The fashion industry panel was promoted through Hanadi Alnawab’s website who is the Digital Business Management BComm’s Program Coordinator at Humber College. Participants were engaged during the event as numerous questions were posed to different guest speakers via the chatbox. Some students also asked questions and shared their experiences via their microphones during the panel discussion.

As businesses continue to adapt to technology and the ongoing pandemic, our panelists expressed the importance of networking in creating an avenue for job opportunities and career advancement.
